Lassie (season 2)

The second season of the television series Lassie premiered on airing on CBS in the United States on September 11, 1955. Spanning twenty-two episodes, its season finale aired on May 27, 1956. Produced by Robert Maxwell, the second season continues to follow the adventures of the female rough collie Lassie and her young owner Jeffrey Miller (Tommy Rettig). Lassie continued to be portrayed by "Lassie Junior", the son of the original Lassie Pal.[1]

For the second season, the theme song was purportedly changed to a song titled "Lassie Main & End Title" that was composed by Raoul Kraushaar. However, the song was really a mild variation of the original season one theme, "Secret of the Silent Hills (Theme from the Lassie TV Series)" that was composed by William Lava. Kraushaar made very slight changes to the song, so minor that only a trained ear can tell the difference, so the show's production company could then claim its copyright.[2]

The second season earned the series its Emmy Award, this time for Best Children's Series.[3]
